AvePoint began as a startup technology company serving early adopters of SharePoint. When AvePoint first set foot in Australia, we focused heavily on selling products to the enterprise market.
With 10 years passing, the Australian business has evolved into utilizing a solution selling and cloud-centric approach. “We don’t just focus on the technical side, but also address customer issues with their cloud adoption,” said Dr. Tianyi (TJ) Jiang, Co-CEO of AvePoint.
What’s Our Journey Been Like?
A decade ago (2008), the first office in Australia was opened in Melbourne. One year later we added a delivery service arm and started rolling out local technical projects.
Led by senior team member Yuyu Wang, her team has been delivering successful projects for businesses, healthcare, education, and government agencies alike, helping all of them transition to the cloud. Read our case studies here.
In 2010, the Melbourne office was relocated due to the expansion of the team. Up to that point, AvePoint Australia had been a major sponsor of Microsoft events such as TechEd and Ignite conferences.
In 2015, the second office was opened in Sydney to better serve the increasing demand from our enterprise customers. In the same year, AvePoint Online Services (AOS) became available from Microsoft’s Azure data center in Melbourne. This was a huge milestone for us, making AOS into locally hosted SaaS software helped enhance Australian businesses’ connectivity to services in Office 365 and eliminated any data sovereignty concerns.
In 2016, AvePoint Australia released our very first Records and Information Management solution, RevIM, an on premise offering. Prior to its launch, RevIM got certified as VERS (Victorian Electronic Records Strategy) compliant by the Public Office Record of Victoria in May 2015. Earlier this year our SaaS offering, Cloud Records, received VERS compliant as well.
“AvePoint’s core values of Agility, Passion, and Teamwork were clearly demonstrated with the launch of the product out of Australia. We managed to achieve compliance with local and international standards and happily celebrated success with our customers in helping them meet their information management challenge head-on,” said Alyssa, Director of Records & Information Management Strategy, spent almost 15 years working as a record manager prior to joining AvePoint.
This year we took our MSP offering, AvePoint Online Services for Partners (AOSP), to the channel through Ingram Micro Cloud ANZ. With this launch, we are extending our migration and backup solutions to the SMB market. Read the press release here.
What have we learned?
1. Being Humble
“The AvePoint logo symbolizes two things: a person bowing and a rising sun above a mountain. We’ve learned to be humble and always on the lookout for new opportunities,” said Blair Hainsworth, Managing Director of AvePoint. Dreaming big and making a positive difference, but always with humility, is what we are all about.
2. Continuing to Innovate
We’ve just launched the AvePoint Virtual Assistant (AVA) that automates common restore requests and other helpdesk tasks. As we continue to roll out more solutions we will keep striving to ensure that we are providing business solutions and offering value rather than just doing maintenance.
3. We’ve got talent!
Australia is the most advanced cloud market in Asia. “The market here is very progressive in adopting technologies, and that is why the rest of the countries in Asia often look at Australia as a reference,” said TJ. “Australia has great cloud and technology expertise, and we have relocated talents from our AU team abroad to countries like Singapore Japan US and UK to help them accelerate growth. Our record products is a great example of IP made in AU now being made available to our global customers,” TJ added.
